Medicine Lodge Rodeo and The Wildrose Rodeo Association have the honor of making this award each year, thanks to ‘Bareback Jack Smith’. Tanner Young is shown below accepting the award from John T. Duffy, Stock Contractor for the event.
Introducing the Award of Distinction
The Board of Directors of the Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame is proud to announce the inception of a new award that will take place at the induction banquet this fall.
This award is based on the details outlined in our Association, defined as Notables. The Notable category will recognize sustained individual or group contributions to the sport of professional rodeo who are not otherwise eligible through other categories.
We proudly announce our inaugural recipient:
Darrell Alan Paulovich
Darrell Paulovich lived his life to the fullest every chance he could. Even after a trucking accident 21 years ago left him in a wheelchair and unable to continue his dream of being a truck driver, his strength and determination gave him the ability to once again drive a vehicle. This allowed him to enjoy his other passion, which was attending every rodeo he could within a 2 ½ hour drive of Edmonton. It didn’t matter whether it was a High School or College rodeo, Jackpot, Amateur or Pro, he was there to cheer on the contestants with a genuine enthusiasm in every event, averaging about 70 rodeos and over 100 performances every year. Darrell’s extensive rodeo family named him Rodeo’s Biggest Fan and Rodeo Ambassador.
Darrell’s love for life, contagious smile and compassion for everyone he met allowed him to touch more people than most of us could ever hope for. To our Son, Brother, Cousin and dearest Friend, Darrell you will be sincerely missed. But we know you will be looking down on us, smiling your big smile and cheering us on from the best seat in the house.
IN DARRELL’s OWN WORDS (An excerpt from a personal letter Darrell wrote on the 20 year anniversary of his accident)…
“Thank You to everyone that I have met along the rodeo trail, you all have welcomed me into the always growing rodeo family, I greatly appreciate it very much.” Thank You for taking the time to stop and visit and become my friends.”
“Like I always say. Enjoy Life while you’re on the right side of the grass.”
Darrell Alan Paulovich
